2009 JDHS State Tournament Results
Girls’ team takes 2nd Place and the boys’ team takes 4th Place.

Congratulations to the JDHS boys’ and girls’ varsity teams for their strong performances at the 2009 State High School Championship Tournament in Anchorage.

The boys took 4th place while posting a 2-1 record in tournament play. They lost a hard fought contest in the quarterfinals to South Anchorage by a 2-1 score. In consolation games they bounced back convincingly, defeating West Valley of Fairbanks 3-1 in overtime and besting Colony 2-1 in the 4th place game. The boys won the tournament’s Team Academic Award for their team 3.49 GPA.

The girls also boasted a 2-1 record, and captured 2nd place, losing 4-0 to defending champion Service in the finals. In the semifinals, they convincingly defeated Chugiak 4-1, and in the quarterfinals beat previously undefeated Kenai 2-0. The girls also won the tournament’s Team Academic Award for their 3.76 GPA.

In addition to those team honors, 3 JSC players were given individual honors by being
selected to the 2009 All Tournament Team: Aaron Badilla. Wendy Calderwood, Sarah Tarver. Wendy Calderwood and Elisha Thibodeau were awarded tournament Good Sport Awards

Thanks to Sandi Wagner, Gary Lehnhart, Matt Dusenberry and the rest of the coaching staff for all of their efforts in supporting these student athletes on and off the pitch. JSC is very proud of the JDHS soccer program and the high level of play and good sportsmanship exhibited by our players. JSC remains dedicated to supporting Juneau high school soccer. Go Bears!
