The 2019-20 season is about to begin in the Dimond Park Field House on October 1.

Here are some things to look forward to and keep in mind for Juneau Soccer Club this year:

  • Week night and Weekend sessions in the fall/winter (October-December) will be run at the Dimond Park Field House.
  • Weekend team sessions are done on a somewhat rotational basis so as to try and make our schedule flexible for better membership attendance.
  • Attendance of these sessions is not required, but we do know that the more a player gets touches on the ball, the better they become!

Refer to the JSC Schedules page for one's age-group for their specific JSC Soccer schedule. We use Google calendars which for many smart-phones is easy to add and follow. When a JSC player cannot attend their weekend team practice, they should contact their team coach in advance and let them know. Late Saturday and Sunday practice times should allow members to participate in JSC programming and still participate in supplemental Parks & Rec. programming. Starting in January our programming times and days in the DPFH changes. Look for the January-May schedules to be posted in late December. Summer schedules are typically posted in mid-May.

  • Goalkeeper training will be held during the weekend for our JSC Competitive Program age-groups (JSC 10-01). This is a supplemental training for those interested in Goalkeeper training; players should still attend their team practice as well.
  • The fall JSC 3v3 World Cup will occur over the weekend of November 9&10. Look for details soon from your local school, or check back on the JSC webpage closer to that date.
  • We'll look to have our spring exchange with Whitehorse in April. This will be an event our competitive JSC age groups will look to attend in Whitehorse. Make sure to attend team meetings so as not to miss this event.
  • We'll look to have our summer exchange with Whitehorse. This time Whitehorse comes to us and plays in "friendlies" with us. Make sure to attend team meetings so as not to miss this event.
  • JSC will once again look into bringing knowledgeable guest coaches into town in late June for a local camp experience for Juneau soccer players.
  • JSC is focused exclusively on the Academy/Pre-Competitive/Competitive team programs. We are no longer associated with JDHS and TMHS high school interscholastic programs. The role of JSC at the HS ages is to continue to offer training opportunities to this age-group regardless of their HS affiliation.
  • In the summer, we hope to host another Sister City Shootout outdoor tournament with Whitehorse teams and will try to attract teams from Sitka and Ketchikan as well.
  • Competitive teams often plan ahead for summer travel opportunities. Each age-group works collectively (coaches, players and parents) to make travel decisions. It takes a lot of work and effort to travel out of Juneau - make sure you attend meetings to stay in the know about your team.

Juneau Soccer Club is primarily a volunteer organization. A successful year putting on events and running fundraisers requires lots of help from club members. Check the club website for ways you can volunteer and contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

PLEASE NOTE: Conflict or Complaints Procedure

If something needs to be resolved, JSC has a procedure that is very effective and is set up to be followed by all members of the club. It can be found under Section 8.3 of the Policies and Procedures via this link. If the issue is worth talking to someone about, then they should follow the procedure.

2019-2020 JSC Programs & Registration Fees

*Pre-Comptetitive and Competitive players sell raffle tickets as part of registration.

Age Groups: JSC 01 through JSC 15

Players will be grouped by January 1 to December 31 birthdates. The numbers after JSC are the last two digits of a year. Click on "schedules" in the main menu to see times for each age group.

2019-2020 PROGRAM OFFERINGS:

ACADEMY: JSC 13, 14 and 15

The JSC offers three "seasons" for this group, they are: October-December (Fall Academy), January - March (Winter Academy), and April - June (Spring Academy). This group typically has one session per week. Players will be learning fundamental techniques (dribbling, ball control, shooting, etc.) in a fun yet challenging environment. We look to have no more than one player to a ball, thus emphasizing quantity of touches and ensuring little to no "standing around" time. $50 per season

PRE-COMPETITIVE: JSC 11 and 12

This group typically has one session on the weekend and come the summer months will move to two sessions per week. Players continue learning fundamental techniques (dribbling, ball control, shooting, etc.) in a fun yet challenging environment, but the program also provides more challenging elements for advanced players in a team setting. $140 for the year AND sell one book of raffle tickets (10 ea.)*

COMPETITIVE: JSC 05, 06, 07, 08 , 09 and 10

The Competitive group typically has three sessions per week, two during the week and one on the weekend. This program focuses on continued development of individual soccer skills and goal keeping while adding "advanced training" concepts of individual and team play. Players start practicing as a competitive team and are eligible for travel to competitive events. $420 for the year AND sell two books of raffle tickets (10 ea.)*

HIGH SCHOOL: JSC 05 - JSC 01

For this age group during October-February, an Advanced Training Program will be conducted for our boys and girls members during the week, followed by a session on the weekend. Age-group teams may still decide to compete in summer tournaments, for which JSC will provide additional training. Players forming a team and going into tournament competition will pay an additional $50 fee to cover the added months. $200 for the year

*Pre-Competitive and Competitive players are required to sell raffle tickets as part of their registration. The funds from the raffle will be partially used to help fund team travel.

TRYING JSC: Some players are not sure if JSC will be a good fit for them, so it makes sense to let prospective players try a couple of JSC training sessions to see what it's about. Working through the respective coach, schedule a session and bring a filled out copy of this FORM FY20_PracticeWaiver.pdf to the practice.

Financial Assistance Information

Although registration coincides with the payout from the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend, some families are challenged to pay the registration fees at the beginning of the season. Using the scholarship form, requests to make installments for the fee may be made. This is a preferred way to help families out, preserving the scholarship budget for those who really need it.

Scholarships are available to help cover the registration fee for families who might otherwise have difficulty paying the registration fee. Two sources of membership scholarships are available:

  1. Irene & Anne Shima Memorial Fund , which is supported by JSC (generally limited to 50% of Annual Membership Fee) Note; Each request is considered on a case-by-case basis and specifics may be provided on the form to support requests above 50%).
  2. CBJ Parks & Recreation Youth Scholarship Program (up to $100 per player)

To apply for a JSC/Irene & Anne Shima Memorial Fund scholarship: Submit a JSC Scholarship Request. A copy can be downloaded HERE.

To apply for the CBJ Parks & Recreation scholarship: Download the scholarship application form from the CBJ Youth Scholarship Program and follow the instructions to apply for that program.

It is not necessary to apply to the CBJ in order to qualify for the JSC/Irene and Anne Shima Memorial Fund Scholarship. Funds for both programs are limited, so we encourage those interested to apply in a timely manner.

TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarship for competitive travel, including assistance with ADP/ODP may be available for your situation. The form to apply can be found HERE.

Registration

REGISTRATION FOR 2019-2020 is OPEN!

Choose your player's age group to the right to register.

Be sure to print your waivers and bring to the first practice.

In order to simplify the registration process, the Juneau Soccer Club maintains an online registration for the season.

Please Note:

  1. There are two forms of payment for registration: credit card or check. CREDIT CARD IS THE PREFERRED METHOD. If you choose to pay by check, please bring it to the Dimond Park Field House with your paperwork. Please DO NOT MAIL THE CHECK. All dues will be due at the time of registration.
  2. Please register based on your child's actual birth date. In the event that they "play-up", register your child in the age-group according to their birth date and then contact us via e-mail. Please DO NOT ENTER AN IMPROPER BIRTH DATE as this complicates things later. If you get the warning, then back up and change the TEAM to match the birth date. That is easy to update. Please refer to our play up policies noted in our Policies and Procedures before making a request or contact the Director of Coaching listed on the JSC website under coaches.

Click on the link to the upper right to start the registration process.

For any questions regarding the registration process contact the JSC Registrar at milleraandi@gmail.com. Be sure to supply a call back number.
